Oh and so it begins, the relaunch of horological nonsensicality, it's the first purchase of 2026, and we went right to the top, to the heavens, we went God Tier. We went Gold Tier.
That's right, you guessed it, it's a Casio, and it's Gold, and it's got dual time, all these things are important and you'll find out why. Let's just clear up why I've called it the Golden Egg. I know it's not the shape of an egg, but it does feature the word in its reference, AQ-230EGG-3AEF. And that's good enough for me.

First though just a general outline of where I'm at. I'm getting back into the watch scene, I can feel it bubbling in my bones, the interest and the desire to make The Theowrist something a bit more than it is. The last 6-8 months have been quiet on the watch front but I'm getting back into it, I have to pace myself though as I have had a lot going on that has impacted my financial freedom. For those in similar situations I hope things get better soon. It's time for me to get serious.

Why isn't the side of the clasp in gold, did they forget, is that normal? Is it fake? Is it cake?
Why this watch, why now?
I don't usually categorise my purchases in such a way, but this one is actually for a specific event, purpose and outfit. I have a beach wedding to attend in tropical climes so I'm wearing an outfit that suits the scene, a kinda fancy shirt, fancy like a drug dealer might wear. My thought was that's it my first beach wedding (might be my last) and I would like to rise to the occasion. So, with an expensive shirt flex and an unwillingness to take any expensive watches on this trip, a shame yes, but also sensible yes. Hassle and worry is not what this wedding or the concluding holiday are about. The shirt has a some gold on it, it might be made of silk and so a gold watch was the natural choice.

At this point, I must address something I have said previously and supercede it. I may have said that all gold watches should be made of actual gold, there is now a caveat, and that is Casio watches. In the heavens, in the God Tier, all is acceptable. I love gold, it's from the stars you know, it's alien to earth (loved Alien Earth btw). I love a gold watch and would love a gold Cartier Ronde/Tank or Vacheron Constantin 222, oh yes please governor. Glad we got that cleared up - The Goldboy.
In this case, I figured that the shirt was flex enough and an expensive watch was not required. But not expensive does not mean not cool, and so the only choice was Casio. Though I was initially looking at a gold Tissot PRX, that wasn't quite right. In the interests of a slow re-entry into the horolosphere and for my wallet, I thought the Goldtimer it was the right choice...maybe not the right name. It was £35.00 (Argos in the UK if you're wondering) but it's usually around £50, come on, that is just wonderful. And it fulfils another purpose, the downsizing of the collection, well it increases the size of the collection but it is a small watch is what I'm saying. It fits really well and it's not the worst hair puller contrary to my expectations. It's also not round, and this is a direction I would like to explore, fair and square.
All that said, I bloody love it, that's my first impression. It falls under the Casio Vintage collection, it certainly is a classic. The size, the look, the fit, the vibe, it's so baller, it's so God Tier it hurts me. It's the Golden Egg, while it's not the chicken, I hope it will keep on giving.

I Love Gold.
There we have it then, the reset, the restart, the re-entry - it's happening. With good reasons, a sensible approach and a change of direction I return, like Daredevil Reborn or Spiderman: Brand New Day. I am back, so watch yours.
Yours Golddiggerishly,
Alvin
